Progress Report
This week we were given a new assignment, which was to work on two songs we have been exploring in our other module and upload them with a short description onto our blog pages.
These 2 songs are 'Anna' by The Beatles, and another to be decided.
I believe our band was quite let down by this change; personally, although I think we could have pulled it off, I do not think our performance would have been at a level where I could be proud of it. Nevertheless, we began on Anna this week although we did not get very far due to the fact most of our band wasn't in most of the time.
For most of the week, it was just me and Sol with Joey coming in occasionally. This is really disheartening as it makes it very difficult to get anything done, especially when this piece goes towards a graded assessment.
So, in conclusion, we managed to learn some parts of 'Anna' but did not manage to put them all together with the whole band.
Individual Learning Plan
I decided to explore a genre quite outside of my comfort zone this week as I learned a math rock riff, encouraged to do so by my guitar teacher. I find the riff to be very pretty and is from '4' by aesthetics across the color line (yes, very descriptive song name).
Despite seeming quite simple, I really struggled (and still struggle a bit) with the fingerpicking aspect. Getting the fingerpicking accurate has been my main obstacle with learning this riff. Furthermore, making the dynamics and timing even when fingerpicking is quite difficult as I tend to accidentally make random notes louder or longer than the others.
This is something I definitely have to work more on as you can probably tell, but I'm happy with the progress I've made so far. I desperately want to add intricate fingerpicking patterns to my own music when I have a chance to compose, so learning this skill will be very useful in the long run.
> For full transparency, this post was completed and the video was uploaded on the 15th of December. The video is a previous recording from approximately 3 weeks ago - however, this post has been written to reflect my feelings at the time.
I apologise for not having written this earlier, however, please understand I have been experiencing mental health struggles which take priority in my life.
Please accept this post for the initiative I have taken in completing my undone work.
