Unit 8: Week 3

Progress Report

This week, I started work on a cinematic-sounding instrumental piece. I don't really know why, but it sounds nice.

The project in Logic so far

To make this, I started with the keyboard sound and then added a piano rhythm over the top. I then added trombones played in different inversions, as is common in many orchestral pieces.
I then added the viola which is a simple drone note, and added an orchestral MIDI loop from Logic Loops.
Penultimately, I found a cool rhythmic, arpeggiating synth sound and added a basic bass line, playing the root note on the 1, 2, 3 and 4 beats. Finally, I added a gong to smoothly transition between the eighth and ninth bars.

Throughout this composition, I also made an effort to learn some shortcuts so I could more quickly navigate Logic.

I also modified the piano to add more reverb (I just increased the send) and added a low-pass filter to cut out some of the high-end and make it warmer.

I plan to finish this piece next week and start a new song by next Friday. I probably won't have any other sections, it will probably just build and drop over and over.
